# Packing for Business Travel

By Drew Breunig

A routine for preparing for business travel. Forgetting to pack stuff for a trip is always frustrating, but especially problematic during a work trip when time my be tight.

- [ ] Review your travel schedule and determine the number of days you need to pack clothes for and note your responsibilities for each day and how they affect your clothing needs.
- [ ] Print out any documents you need to provide which your phone may be unable to provide. I generally compile the key points in my notes app, then print it and stash it for good measure. Losing your phone shouldn’t mean not knowing your hotel.
- [ ] If you have sufficient time in your schedule to work out, pack gym clothes.
- [ ] Pack the toiletries you need for a trip of this duration. Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, soap, sunscreen, shaving supplies, etc.
- [ ] Make sure you have your phone, wallet, and keys. And a passport if you need it.
- [ ] Ensure a additional layer is either worn or in your personal bag for the flight. It can get cold.
- [ ] Pack necessary medicine. I never travel without Advil, indigestion medicine, and allergy medicine. If you pack them in separate, more portable containers, check those containers and ensure everything is in stock.
- [ ] Cache any media you need to use on the plane. Download videos, documents to review, books, music, and/or a podcast or two.
- [ ] Pack all electronic devices and their associated chargers. Ensure you match your cords to your power bricks and to your devices. Pack them in a separate bag and stash them somewhere accessible.
- [ ] Charge a spare battery that can at least power your phone. Then pack it with your cables.
- [ ] Pack a snack and water. Schedules can get tight and you often need to play things by ear. Meals are the first thing that get pushed, so be sure you have a granola bar or other snack accessible in your personal bag. Pack a reusable water bottle, but be sure it’s empty.
